The Mountain West Conference announces its 10th Anniversary Volleyball Team, as selected by a combined panel of media, institutional and conference personnel and on-line fan poll. Utah's Kim Turner and Shelly Sommerfeldt were selected to the team.A two-time MWC Player of the Year, Turner ended her career ranked first in the Utah record books in kills (1,620), total blocks (670), block assists (589) and hitting percentage (.324), third in solo blocks (81) and fourth in attempts (3,306). A third-team AVCA All-American in 2003, she ranked 18th in the nation in blocks per game (1.48) and 31st in hitting percentage (.367) that season.
Sommerfeldt was a three-time all-conference hitter and a two-time All-MWC Tournament player. She was also MWC Tournament MVP as a senior. The Orem, Utah, native finished her career sixth all-time at Utah in kills (1,245) and third all-time in attempts (3,336).
In order to be eligible for consideration, candidates must have been a first team all-Mountain West selection at least once in their careers.
Anniversary teams will be chosen for each of the 19 conference-sponsored sports during the 2008-09 seasons in celebration of the Mountain West's 10th anniversary.
